"Making Runs” - Women’s Cricket In the North Eastern
Suburbs
Would you like to play cricket?
The Tea Tree Gully
District Cricket Club will be entering a
B Grade and C Grade
team in the SACA Women’s competition in
the coming season. Matches are played on turf wickets and begin on 10th
October, 2008.
The club will also
be entering teams in either the
Youth Cup
and the
Scorpion Shield (Saturday evening
or Sunday morning).
The
Youth Cup
is intended for young girls at secondary
school (under 16) and the
Scorpion Shield
is for primary school aged
girls (under 13). Both these competitions are designed to introduce girls to the
game of cricket and are played under modified rules on turf wickets and
no previous experience is required. If the girls do not have their own

Our girls have preformed remarkably well since the
introduction of the Scorpion Shield team four seasons ago with the B
Grade team, in their first year, being runners-up in both the 1-day and
twenty/20 competitions. Tamara Clapton, Victoria Bach and Crystal
Wilson represented SA in the Under 15 national carnival in SA last year
with Tamara also representing SA in the Under17 national carnival.
Amanda Wellington and Lauren Donahoe represented SA in the U13 national
carnivals. Tamara Clapton is a rookie member of the State Women's
Scorpion squad for the 2008-09 season
Will
you be the next Karen Rolton?
Karen took over the captaincy of the
Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars
in February 2006, having served as vice-captain of the side since 1997.
The left-hander is Australia’s leading Test run
scorer (her 63 in the Adelaide Oval Test against India lifted her to
this milestone), and the third highest run-scorer in women’s one-day
cricket history. Karen has won the Women’s International Cricketer of
the Year award, presented at the Allan Border Medal count, a record four
times.
She
started playing cricket in the backyard with her brother and next door
neighbours.
She plays grade cricket for Port Adelaide and has represented the men’s
club team.
